About

I grew up in Colorado, where I took the mountains for granted and longed to be in Narnia instead. I always wanted to write books, but I did a bunch of other stuff first, such as work for exchange programs and think tanks, do homestays in seven countries, become a freelance editor, get married, and raise two sons who love books just as much as I do (though not the same ones). I now live with my family and a petulant gecko in Virginia outside Washington, DC.

My favorite color is blue and my favorite ice-cream flavor is Marsh Mud (which tastes better than it sounds), and my favorite music is sad music. When I’m not writing or reading, I enjoy playing easy (sad) songs on the piano, studying Japanese, drawing weird-looking trees, and walking.
